MICHAEL ATTEBERRY

DEAF PREACHER @

DAHLIA STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST

Denver, Colorado

Mike was born in Denver but grew up on a dairy farm east of Aurora, Colorado. Mike went to a one room country schoolhouse for five years near the farm. The retired teacher did not know how to teach a deaf person, he kept Mike busy coloring books and copying things from the blackboard. Mike did not learn anything until he went to Evans Elementary School with an oral deaf program near downtown
Denver. This is where he met other deaf kids like him and had a thirst for learning. Mike graduated from Aurora Hinkley High School in 1968 as the only deaf student in his class. Mike went to Community College of Denver majoring in map drafting. Mike began
learning American Sign Language from the deaf students he met at the community college. He married Donna Von Feldt in July 1972 who also had two deaf brothers which made Mike more determined to learn and use the ASL. Mike and Donna went to Lakewood Church of Christ and was baptized by Roy Price in 1974. Mike served as a deacon at Lakewood for about a year before moving to Birmingham, AL in 1980 to attend the Birmingham Bible School for the Deaf and
studied to be a minister. After graduating from BBSD in 1983, Mike and his family moved back to Denver to work full time as a deaf minister at the Dahlia Street Church of Christ. Mike has been invited as a guest speaker at various deaf workshops, gospel meetings and retreat camps during his 37 years in the deaf ministry.

JOSE ABENCHUCHAN
PIONEER BIBLE TRANSLATORS

Iowa

Greetings everyone, in the precious name of Jesus Christ! Here is my short bio about myself. I have been a Christian since 1983, when I decided to give my life to Jesus in baptism.  Since this time, I have been on the long journey of seeking His face for guidance in my life. It brings me to where I am today, working for international focusing on “Bibleless” countries related to the Bible translation sign languages.

I went to Gallaudet and received a BS degree in Business Administration in 1981.  I was not satisfied, so I decided to study counseling and received an MS degree.  After seven years of working as a director with deaf people with special needs, I saw a great spiritual need for deaf people worldwide. I decided to pray, change my career, and attend Sunset International Bible Institution in Lubbock, Texas.  After completing my studies at SIBI, I went to work as a minister for three different churches in Kansas, Texas, and Florida. Then God led me to be involved with Bible translation with Deaf Missions in Iowa, and now working for Pioneer Bible Translators.  I have been traveling and doing mission work in countless countries worldwide.

My wife, Kathleen, and I have six children (almost all of them are already married) and 12 grandchildren.
